About the Author

John D. Anderson, Jr., was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, on October 1, 1937. He attended the University of Florida, graduating in 1959 with high honors and a Bachelor of Aeronautical Engineering Degree. From 1959 to 1962, he was a Lieutenant and Task Scientist at the Aerospace Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. From 1962 to 1966, he attended the Ohio State University under the National Science Foundation and NASA Fellowships, graduating with a PhD in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering. In 1966, he joined the U.S. Naval Ordnance Laboratory as Chief of the Hypersonics Group. In 1973, he became Chairman of the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Maryland, and since 1980 has been Professor of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Maryland. In 1982, he was designated a Distinguished Scholar/Teacher by the University. During 1986–1987, while on sabbatical from the University, Dr. Anderson occupied the Charles Lindbergh Chair at the National Air and Space Museum of the Smithsonian Institution. He continued with the Air and Space Museum one day each week as their Special Assistant for Aerodynamics, doing research and writing on the History of Aerodynamics. In addition to his position as Professor of Aerospace Engineering, in 1993, he was made a full faculty member of the Committee for the History and Philosophy of Science and in 1996 an affiliate member of the History Department at the University of Maryland. In 1996, he became the Glenn L. Martin Distinguished Professor for Education in Aerospace Engineering. In 1999, he retired from the University of Maryland and was appointed Professor Emeritus. He is currently the Curator for Aerodynamics at the National Air and Space Museum, Smithsonian Institution.

Book shipped as described. Much cheaper than the $300 hard cover version of the book. Only complaint is the ease of wear on the paperback, but definitely worth saving $250 on a book I will use for one semester.

Not worth it!

For $6 more you can purchase the complete book of Gut on kindle. This summary was definitely not worth the money I paid for it. The analysis of the key takeaways are extremely vague. It has NO illustrations which seem to be an important part of the complete version, especially since they were created by Ender's sister who is a specialized medical graphic designer. I purchased this summary because of the positive reviews but I should've made the decision based on the number of pages, clearly not enough for a worthy analysis.

Are you curious about what happens from ingestion to digestion? The two page overview at the beginning of this detailed summary by Eureka informs you what the full book covers including how recent studies "suggest the gut might have a broader impact on the body and brain...." than many folks originally thought. It even goes as far as to suggest that the gut is like a second brain i.e. the health of your gut is VERY important.

We get to read seven short bios on the important people in this book before heading into the 'Key Takeaways'. There are eight of these which are listed first and then discussed in more detail one by one. Key Takeaway 2 talks about how the "digestive and neurological systems are tightly interconnected". Key Takeaway 4 briefly explores the connection between a healthy gut and immune system. In Key Takeaway 7 the discussion is on the effect the choices of C-section and formula feeding have on the gut and building of a healthy gut microbiome in children. What can be done to counter this?

So, is the original book all serious reading? No, there are "many jokes built in" throughout the discussion of a complicated topic. The original is also well illustrated.

Intriguing Summary on Health

This summary and analysis of "Gut" by Enders was a very thought-provoking read. As soon as I read the first page, I couldn't wait to learn more about the author's discoveries. I knew that healthy eating affected our physical health, but I had never considered its impact on our emotions and behaviors. This selection summarizes what the overall book is about, lists key takeaways and then analyzes those takeaways with further explanation. The information and research shared in the summary are very compelling. I found takeaway 5's discussion on disease prevention through symbiotic relationships to be particularly interesting. I loved that I was able to gain so much knowledge on this subject without having to read the entire book.

About the Author
"Dr Premamoy Ghosh, Ph.D., is former Professor and Head, Department of Polymer Science and Technology, Calcutta University. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, (India) and the Institute of Materials (London)––formerly, Plastics and Rubber Institute (London). He is a life member of the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers and the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Kolkata. Additionally, he is the current president of the Institute of Science, Education and Culture (ISEC), Kolkata, and chairman of the Editorial Board of its journal Indian Science Cruiser. Dr Ghosh is also a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Polymer Materials, M.D. Publications, New Delhi, and a former member of the editorial board of the Indian Journal of Technology, CSIR, New Delhi. Dr Ghosh was born in 1936. He acquired his B.Sc. (Applied Chemistry) in 1958, and went on to do his Ph.D. (Polymer––Chemistry) in 1962—both from Calcutta University. He researches on polymer synthesis/modification, photopolymerization, polymerization kinetics and mechanistics, polymer microstructure, random, block and graft copolymerization, rubber compounding and vulcanization, reactive processing of polymers, polymer finishes on fibres and textiles, conducting polymers, polymer blends and composites, and polymer rheology and morphology. Dr Ghosh has so far published more than 320 research publications and review articles. He has authored two books titled Fibre Science and Technology (2004) and Adhesives and Coatings Technology (2008), both published by Tata McGraw-Hill. He has also written books on Society Science and Spiritualism in Bengali language, including one in an autobiographical style and another as a collection of poems."

Despite lacking any experience with motorcycle gangs, Charles Falco infiltrated three of America's deadliest biker gangs: the Vagos, Mongols, and Outlaws. In separate investigations that spanned years and coasts, Falco risked his life, suffering a fractured neck and a severely torn shoulder, working deep under cover to bring violent sociopaths to justice.

His dedication was profound; Falco spent almost three years infiltrating the Vagos gang and rose to second in command of the Victorville, California chapter. He even served time in San Bernardino's Murder Unit and endured solitary confinement to protect his cover and the investigations. Falco recorded confessions of gangland-style killings and nearly became a target himself before he sought refuge in the Witness Protection Program. CHARLES FALCO spent three years infiltrating the Vagos, becoming second-in-charge of the Victorville, California chapter, another two years infiltrating the Mongols and Outlaws and became vice president of a Virginia chapter of the Outlaws.

KERRIE DROBAN is the co-author of Prodigal Father, Pagan Son and author of Running with the Devil, winner of the USA Book News National Book Award for Best Memoir/Autobiography and two-time winner for their True Crime award. She is an attorney in Arizona.

Why all the hate? Snobby book critics.

First off, I read about 4 books per year. Not a lot, but more than the average adult.

Saw this book on the news while watching "The Following". I live in Socal, in the Inland Empire, and I encounter Vagos on a weekly/monthly basis. I think this book was extremely accurate, and entertaining. This is an extremely easy read. Which I believe, Falco was going for, I don't believe he was trying to make a Catcher in the Rye about motorcycle gangs.

So take the hateful reviewers with a grain of salt. For all people who are fascinated by motorcycle gang life, this is a great book. It gives you a really good idea of what undercover work is like as well, extremely stressful!

Many moments while reading this book I found myself laughing out loud or cringing. If you are an avid reader, reading a book a month, don't buy this book. This is a very basic outline of a Rico Case against a motorcycle gang, it's not meant to change your life or bring you into another dimension of serenity. It's a book about gang violence and undercover work.

Let me tell you as an Inland Empire resident who moved from Orange County CA - This level of violence really happens, and it happens right out in the open most of the time. The fact that this gang tried to blow up a police station by re-routing the gas lines into their office shows you how ruthless and crazy these people are. And for that reason - I feel this book was worth the money, and was very entertaining.

I know the reality of this book

So.. This book has its truisms and its falsehoods.. Also a lot of the demeaning behavior depicted in this book are embellished for one but also do not represent even the majority if the club. The majority are regular non tweak era.. Working men with wives or girlfriends... I am the club member portrayed in the book by the name if Bandit... It's funny reading the elaborate eccentric over the top pieces that Charles depicted.. Sorry to say but I knew him truthfully. Although he was likely stressed with the situation of the case he truthfully enjoyed a lot. Like the womanizing is not something he didn't partial in. Or the meth etc... In the book he begs for live and acceptance from the reader by making himself out an angel. But he left out plenty about himself. If she had any sense if duty for community or law enforcement it was only due to his situation. He paints himself in a golden light so as to not have to see his earned federal prison time and to make money. He continued further investigations and ratting because I know for fact he truly loved the outlaw biker lifestyle and wanted and enjoyed living it. I read this and laugh at many parts but the truth is every org has good brothers and bad apples. I am a good person, a family man, and I work 70 hrs a week. I don't sell drugs or beat my fianc�. I am a great father to my 2 year ild daughter and am living my life right. But to be honest while active in the club you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who could say that I ever fought web I didn't have to. There were many who knew me as standup dude who lived by the club motto. "I gave what I got". As in I gave respect when given to me. And dealt disrespect ten fold when given to me. This book is very good, one of the best on the subject, but the Kindle download version of this is missing the excellent photos the regular book store version has, and it stinks. They should tell you it doesn't include the photos. Don't bother with the Kindle download of this, get the regular book version of it instead or you'll be missing out on the good photos that go with it.
