This book in AMAZING!

This book is amazing for anyone one that works in the skin care business. As an up and coming herbalist I have been looking for recipes for natural skin care products for my store. Most of the organic skin care books that I have purchase have recipes that are made with food products that have no shelf life and have to be discarded after every application. I don't know about you but I can't run to the kitchen to whip up a facial scrub every time I need to clean my face. This book has many recipes that have a shelf life and are simple and easy to make.

The books starts with explaining the author's "skin personalities", not just normal, dry and oily, then goes into the recommended essential oils, vegetal oils and herbal extracts that are best for each skin personalities.

This is also the first book I have come across that talks about good skin starts from the inside. It discusses how to detox the body, what foods, herbs and vitamins are best for clarifying the skin.

I usually go through my herbal book highlighting them for future reference. I can't bring myself to put one mark in this book. It is so beautifully designed and the photos are gorgeous. The author should be very proud.

The Best!

This is the very best book on making skincare products for yourself and others. I picked this up 3-4 years ago and immediately sent off for oils & essences included in the recipes, using them myself and gifting to friends. I haven't bought moisturizer or any skincare products since - can you imagine how much money I've saved in 3 years NOT buying $60 creams for 3oz every 2 months? (hmmm that alone saved $60x6x3years = $1080.) Plus, use organic oils and it's better for your skin and fresher than any skincare products off the shelf ever. I use the rejuvenating oil (I'm over 60) and truly, 80% of my wrinkles are just gone -- there are no harsh ingredients to cause them. My sensitive skin doesn't react to these pure formulations. Believe me, they did even with high end department store brands. Plus it's fun -- just like following a recipe.

Beautiful looking book with lovely pictures. I like how the book is organized. First giving you general information about skin health, different ingredients and essential oils and recipes. I like how each recipe is coded by skin condition.
I would have liked to have more information on shelf life with some of the recipes. Some do say for immediate use, and some mention to store in the refrigerator, but I would liked to have seen EVERY recipe note how long a shelf life it has, in or out of the frig.
Also would like to see more recipes that have a shelf life and are not just single use.
All in all a lovely useful book.

Background:
In General Practice, common disorders are usually distinguished from each other by good history taking and careful examination. In contrast, hospital doctors have easy access to many investigations and often rely more heavily on these, than their clinical skills.

The inability of GPs to access such immediate tests in making the diagnosis, is the most difficult challenge for new doctors to overcome. Furthermore keeping up to date on signs and symptoms of uncommon conditions is also a challenge for more experienced GPs.

The ability to differentiate between benign illnesses and serious conditions without investigations is therefore a critical skill which GPs must possess in order to practise safely.

Scope of the book:
The book will cover all common symptoms which present in General Practice and list their recognised causes in order of prevalence.

Reaching a provisional diagnosis is the most difficult part of any GP consultation. The formulation of a management plan thereafter is often straight forward. Therefore this book will focus solely on the formulation of likely diagnoses and will not attempt to cover the investigations and management of them. However, important points will be highlighted where appropriate.

Review - Vatican II: The Essential Texts

Too often we get our information about people and groups through the grapevine. We hear from someone’s cousin, twice removed. We never go to the source for the information we want. That is why when I study different people, groups, faiths, etc. that I read writing’s from those involved in them.

That is what is so important about the book Vatican II - The Essential Text. Vatican II is an important Catholic Church council that shaped much of what the church is about today. It includes most of the documents that were finalized in Vatican II. From the current liturgy, to the churches view of what constitutes God’s Word, onto how the church is to relate to the world and other faiths.
What is even of more help is the introductions to each section made by Edward P. Hahnenberg. He gives us background on the reason the topic was up for consideration, the process it took to have it finalized, and he even includes those in the church who disagreed with it.

This is a book that I will use often in my studies. It is well written, easy to understand, and important to our understanding of the Roman Catholic Church as it is today.

A Church in Re-Mission

I am somewhat embarassed to admit thathaving been a Catholic my entire life and having taught Catholicism for two years, having read numerous books on theology and biblical studies in that time, that I had neglected certainly the most important writings in Catholicism in the century and possibly in the last 500 years. I am always apprehensive in approaching Church documents, whether they be encyclicals, exhortations and the like, because of the assumed dry nature and techinical language I expect them to have. Fortunately, most of the time I am dead wrong, especially with the last few the Church has been graced with (especially Francis, B16, and St. JP2, but I could go all the way back to Paul 6 really).

The documents of Vatican II "follow" (from my perspective, though they actually precede) in that same spirit. In them I find a Church that is not floundering but alive and active and, like the Sacraments it bestows, also gives life to the reader who finds them with a clear, engaged and open mind to God's guidance.

This compilation does narrow the scope somewhat, but I think it is because the average lay reader has no need to read some of the more obscure documents that don't apply, but is more concerned with those that apply to everyone, especially Lumen Gentium (Light of the Nations) and Dei Verbum (Word of God) as the first deals with the life of the Church, Her "body," the people, and the second with God's written Word, the Bible.

As I mentioned before, my initial worry was that I would be put to sleep in reading these and only Bishops, who in my mind have to read them, are the only ones who had the mental capacity, theological vocabulary, and moral duty to trudge through them. Again, fortunately, the liveliness of these "old, European men in robes" reinvigorated my love for Christ and His Church and I anticipate a similar reaction. Certainly not for the faint of heart, the most beneficial reading of these is a slow one, but, like the very Bible from which it is based and draws from continually, it is a spiritual, theological and devotional powerhouse that will engage the Catholic mind for centuries.

The Face of the Church

The texts of Vatican II reflect Catholic theology at it's highest stage in development. These texts contain many years of reflected wisdom applied to the problems of the world today, while at the same time further reflecting on the faith once and for all delivered to the saints. Vatican II is not a liberal abnormality of previous Catholic teaching, but is rather the next logical step of development. It did not change or contradict the doctrines of the faith, rather it further illuminated them. If you want to learn about what Vatican II taught, there can be nothing better than reading the texts themselves. In them, you find the wisdom and truth that makes the Catholic Church so great.

Great for research, limited discussion on how to progress patients.

I'd give it 4.5 stars

For getting update on stroke research, this is the best book I've read by far. It talks about all of the cutting edge and commone place treatments and evidence and has several hundred reference studies per chapter. the chapters are also written by some of the leading experts in the field. That said, I would have liked a little bit more of a discussion on how to apply the knowledge. It's great to know that biofeedback helps stroke, and that treadmill training helps, but what parameters, wehich is better when comparing mutually exclusive treatments, etc.

As a reference book it's a 5, as a guide in terms of what I should actually be doing with patients I give it a 4.

Newbie beware - many errors ahead!

Although this book is written for the new Matlab programmer, the number of errors (coding and grammatical) will lead the newbie astray. I gave up partway through the book because I did not know whether the errors I saw in my code were my own, or a result of the poor code examples in the book.
