Invisibility: Mastering the Art of Vanishing, by Steve Richards

From Harry Potter's famous cloak, to the secrets of the "Invisible Man," popular culture has long been obsessed with the idea of becoming invisible.

Yet, the art of invisibility is one of the most closely guarded of all occult secrets. For centuries magicians and adepts have hinted at ways of achieving this seemingly impossible feat, but now these ideas have been brought together for the first time to form a complete manual on how invisibility can be accomplished.

Drawing on alchemy, Rosicrucianism, medieval magic, hypnotism, Einsteinian physics and yogic techniques, Steve Richards presents an authoritative and entertaining investigation into this extraordinary subject.

This book focuses on the most elusive and seductive of all magical powers, teaching readers the power of invisibility from an occult perspective.

Well Researched, But Ultimately Impractical
By Malcolm Robinson
This book claims to be a practical manual for the development of occult vanishing techniques, but it would more accurately be titled "a survey on the phenomenon of invisibility throughout history, as it relates to the western mystical tradition". Most of the content is historical, and while it is of interest, it is also of very little practical value. I found the much repeated information on medieval alchemy to be of little relevance. I was also unimpressed by the author's avoidance of mentioning personal experiences with invisibility. Can he turn invisible, or not?
His theory, shared by many other occultists, is that one must accumulate a cloud of akasha (ether, the fifth tattvic element) around their person, preventing light from reflecting off the physical body and thus reducing visibility. The importance of akasha to the phenomenon of invisibility has been suggested by Franz Bardon (a 20th century Czech occultist) and eastern adepts. This theory itself is sound, and the book explains it sufficiently, but unfortunately it is NOT accompanied by adequate practical instruction. There are instructions for the development of astral sight/clairvoyance and invisibility, and while the astral sight exercises are decent, the invisibility instructions are too vague to be practical. It is still a good book though, despite its shortcomings, and it should be read by anyone seeking to develop this ability.

It's all very real!
By Tom S.
I've been studying magick and the occult for over 30 years, and this book knocked me right out of my chair! I've been involved with experiments involving energy manipulation through the use of the visual imagination, to excellent effect. My very first experiment was, of course, invisibility, and it worked too well (laughably so!)... I was floored as read this book, realizing that the techniques I had personally developed had been in use for a very long time!...but Invisibility is only a single aspect of Richards covers.
This is one of those books that you'll read once and think "Well that was a lot of information, but it didn't really tell me HOW...", but indeed IT DOES. In fact, this unassuming little book covers a great deal MORE than "just invisibility", It simply does so in a way that requires one to use their mind and read betwixt the lines a bit...but I PROMISE, it's in there!
I highly recommend this book to the seasoned occultist, the fledgling beginner and all levels in between. This little book holds a prominent position on my shelf for good reason.

For Those Who Prefer To Go Unnoticed
By A.Luther
I bought this book because I was intrigued by the title: can this author really tell me how to become literally - not metaphorically - invisible? There are tips and advise on how to supposedly become invisible. I have yet to try them and to be honest I don't know if I ever will. However, the tips on how to become invisible involve focusing your attention and obtaining a meditative state of mind until one can conjure up an ethereal "subtle energy" cloud that cloaks you from the perception of others. The book has some interesting references from Eastern and Western Occultism and I was intrigued by the use of some of the dabs at the scientific understanding of light and perception as a way to contextualise how the Occult practice of invisibility works. Should I be sceptical? Perhaps, but the book does reference the use of hypnotism and the intriguing fact that perception is a process involving complex elaboration and inference by the mind (or brain, depending on your philosophy) and does not merely involve the passive reception of physical stimuli. There is no doubt that hypnotic induction can cause people to not "see" things and Richard's discussion on such so-called "negative hallucinations" caught my interest. It's only a short book and definitely worth a read.
