This is a must read!

In "Hush, Don't Tell Nobody," Kyle Doty uses poetry and prose in a seemingly simplistic manner to convey a journey of childhood betrayal and abuse, the anger and pain that betrayal manifests, and the ultimate terminus of forgiveness. In actuality, Doty's work is an example of the masterful use of words as he weaves a tale of abuse, love (from God and people), and redemption. In reading "Hush, Don't Tell Nobody", I ran the emotional gamut as a survivor of childhood abuse. From the Voice of God to Confessions my tears flowed. At the line "...it's not your fault" I longed to hear someone say the same to me. The poem Metal Mouth is haunting with the allusion to suicidal thoughts. Finally, forgiveness and absolution are the culmination of the journey as found in April 26. I highly recommend "Hush, Don't Tell Nobody" to readers of all ages. A powerful read!

This tiny book of poetry encases a power far beyond its pages. Not only is the syntax of the poems themselves moving and haunting, but the syntax of the book itself is exquisite. The careful placement of the poems is like watching a veil slowly lower and reveal pain and redemption and forgiveness usually reserved for people who are at the edge of death. Line by line the juxtaposition of words and images would take my breath away. The same would happen at the end of each poem. And, finally, when I came to the last poem, the last line, the last moment, my breath was taken by the sheer genius of the book and its author. It has been over 24 hours since I read this book and it lives inside my brain as I work and play. I am a lover of words and these book is a word lovers dream.

You NEED to read this book!

I could not put this book down - I read it in one sitting, and then read it again! Kyle's poems are intriguing and thought-provoking. His prose juxtaposes the charming simplicity of life with its many hardships, and the contrast between beauty and pain is jarring and stunning. The author uses his prose to evoke feelings and impressions both instinctually visceral and deeply intellectual. His poems both delighted and provoked me, and I would give my fullest recommendation of this book to anyone. Even if you do not read poetry, I highly suggest you read THIS poetry and let it bewitch you with love, joy, tragedy, and the true beauty of life.
