This book concentrates on the processing of secondary sources for recovering uranium, a field which has gained in importance in recent years as it is environment-friendly and economically in tune with the philosophy of sustainable development. Special mention should be made of rock phosphate, copper and gold tailings, uranium scrap materials (both natural and enriched) and sea water. This volume is unique in that it includes a succinct and comprehensive description of related areas of ore mineralogy, resource classification, processing principles involved in solubilisation followed by separation and safety aspects. Conventional literature contains statistical data or general practices, whereas this book presents the scientific and industrial features. Two comprehensive appendices complement the book, the first deals with the production of metallic uranium in the natural and enriched forms, the second focuses on the production of both metallic and ceramic fuels. Both authors have decades of experience in uranium processing. Recent advances and an exhaustive list of references round off this long-awaited publication.
