Professor Fung is considered the father of bioengineering and founder of biomechanics.

Winner of Timoshenko and Poiseulle medals he's an Engineer that started to study physiology when his mother was diagnosed with glaucoma in 1957.

I am trained as a Medical Doctor and Molecular Biologist but being the son of a Professor of Civil Engineering made me understand the importance that structural engineering has in Medicine and Biology.

Now I am interested in nuclear matrix and lamins(as they are connected to aging phenomena) so I am training myself in Biomechanics, and I found that this book is the strating point.

I recommend this book to all Structural Engineers,Biomedical Engineers, MDs and Cellular and Molecular Biologists that want to understand this field.

A Masterpiece in Biomechanics!

What I would say is not a comprehensive review of what the great book talks, but just telling you a truth: if you have engineering and mathamatics background and wanna combine your background to do research in physiology, Fung's book is absolutely a must-buy. This book is profound, but it is actually rooted in nearly all fields of biomechanics research.
It is a conclusion for biomechanics research till 1980's; also this book is a truly great reference for all current researchers who are interested in biomedical research in point of view of a mathamatician and engineer.

Good Continuum Mechanical Treatment of Biomechanics

I bought this book while in a course on the mechanics of complex fluids. I needed a book, dealing with blood rheology in a continuum mechanical approach. My professor suggested that I pick up this volume.

I found the book to be very readable. The writing style is clear and succinct. Each chapter contains mathematical, as well as historical, treatment of the topic. Although I bought this book for the chapters on blood rheology, I continued reading through the book for my own amusement.

I bought this book used, for around $40. At that price, this book was a good investment.

Selznick. He co-starred in his very first film, director John Ford's magnificent Fort Apache (1948), and parlayed that impressive debut role into a two-decade string of heroic leads. Steady work was the important thing to Agar, who easily alternated between A-pictures (Ford classics, Sands of Iwo Jima, more), drive-in favorites (Revenge of the Creature, Tarantula) and low-low-budget exploitation items.

A gracious, gentle man, Agar tells the bittersweet tale of his journey through life in this tribute volume, which also includes additional interview material and photos not only from his films but also his private life.

Short but Excellent Bio of B Movie Icon

The star of four John Wayne/John Ford movies, as well as Revenge of the Creature, Tarantula, Mole People, and numerious B Westerns and scifi movies, actor John Agar (1921-2002) tells his story. Agar traces his childhood, then goes on to his unexpected chance start in acting when a guest at his wedding -- to grown up child star Shirley Temple -- invited him to get a screen test. Agar found he liked acting and his first role was the John Ford classic, Fort Apache, with John Wayne and even his wife, Shirley Temple, who appears as the love interest in what was probably her biggest adult role.

The marriage with Temple didn't last long and Agar declines to comment much on it. He remarried...his second wife appeared in Revenge as the lady screaming on a boat as the Creature dives into the ocean. Aside from marriage, Agar admits to having a problem with alcohol and occasionally falling off the wagon, but he accepts responsibility.

This is a short book, but Agar was suffering from emphysema when dictating it, so I'm sure that was a factor. It is buttressed by two Tom Weaver interviews (which in Weaver's fashion bring in a lot of fan-favorite detail about making the movies and not just the bio the author instead focuses on) and an article about Agar which brings in a few details he didn't cover. An excellent decision, especially since Weaver delves more into the making of the scifi and horror movies, adding substantially to Agar's own comments.

Despite its brevity, an excellent bio by a 1950s B movie icon.

A must have for any adult with ADD

I am someone who spent the first 23 years of their life dealing with un-diagnosed depression, anxiety, and ADD. For a long time I had trouble in work, school, and my personal life due to these issues. I finally sought treatment in late 2014 when I started to see a therapist once a week and eventually began to see a psychiatrist every so often too. In the last 2 years I've made tremendous strides on managing what I deal with on a day to day basis. Recently my therapist and I started to focus more on my ADD and she recommended this book to me to help with many of the organizational issues I encounter each day.

This book is FANTASTIC! I cannot recommend this book enough to people who are dealing with ADD especially as an adult. The chapters are short, but very informative. The book does a great job at keeping your attention for short bursts. They are always giving you new information on how to put plans into actions so that you can better organize your life. They cover a a lot of topics including organizing your time, your house (including your bills), and your overall life. The book gives concrete examples of behavior you maybe suffering from at the start of each chapter so that you can identify if you are dealing with the same issues. The book not only gives you a breakdown of things you can do to help yourself, but also how your friends/family & professionals can help you if you need it.

Even though this book is over 10 years old it is still very relevant to the fast paced world we live in now and I've had tremendous success in implementing the strategies in this book into my own life. One of the best purchases I've made in the last several years considering how much of an impact it has made. My only criticism is that I wish they'd write a new book considering how much the internet and technology has changed our lives since this book as been published.

A great book for a busy mind

I was recently diagnosed with ADHD and this book was recommend by my therapist. The authors mention at the beginning it is written with the understanding that the reader has ADD/ADHD and I couldn't agree more. The tips that were the authors discuss are also counter-intuitive to how most people are taught to function in society, but it actually works. I have learned to do handle larger tasks, prioritize my time better, and so much more without feeling bad about my ADHD. This book teaches you to accept and live with your diagnosis, rather than run away from it.

Life-changing

Got this book at the library and it was missing pages, so with my ADD lack of impulse control bought it on Amazon. I read this while I was still questioning my new diagnosis, and it confirmed it while teaching me valuable skills. This books will probably be most helpful for young adults. Some of the tips I absolute insist on from now on, such as having someone just sit there and keep me on task while I clean, and I review it a lot for complicated tasks like the laundry. It's not condescending, unlike a lot of other "adulting" resources, and goes into detail. It also has pictures and short sections, which helps my focus.
