Read this great book!

Ross Shafer spoke at a conference I recently attended. Besides being the most entertaining speaker I have ever heard, he really opened my eyes to what I need to do to not only keep my business alive but how to actually make it grow. I headed straight to the bookstore so I could learn more. Clearly, the times have changed and the economy is new and different from what it was twenty years ago. Shafer shows readers that consumers' habits have changed right along with the economy, and how businesses can and NEED to respond to this phenomenon. The idea that you need to actively outmaneuver the competition to get your share of a limited market is just smart. After going through the case studies and examples Ross provides in this book, I feel like I have a better understanding of how to go about grabbing some market share. This book is flat out enlightening, so I recommend it to anybody who wants to increase their profit.

This guy Ross Shafer is a genius. In his book he shows how to grab more market share at a time when most markets are not growing. He thinks years down the road which help companies to stay relevant and ahead of the competition. He identifies trends that most people cannot see. He explains how to spot the next customer revolution and how the customer wants to be treated--not the same old "the customer is always right," but how you need to be concerned with customer urgency. He uses examples of famous, successful companies that have gone bust by not remaining reactive to the market's needs. Well written, also good as a reference

This book consists of 3 major parts: Introduction to risk management, risk assessment & analysis techniques, and building & running risk management program. I found the book easy to follow and well written. I put post-it notes all over the book because I plan to use as a reference book.

I especially like Chapter 5 which is about formulating a risk. I know this at first hand the task can be daunting for a beginner. The author summed it up very well when he said "just because possible doesn't make it probable". Just like I said in the beginning I can see myself going back and reading some chapters over and over again. All-in-all, I highly recommend this book for IT auditors especially if you have non-technical background, this book will clarify some of the important concepts for you.

Great Walkthrough and offers many points for risk analysis for your infrastructure!

First off, to start this book is well organized, each sub section of each section of each chapter is clearly outlined in the Contents section, so if you do not plan to read cover to cover and just need to have a reference, or need a refresher for your current project you can easily find what you are looking for without spending hours reading through chapters to find what closely matches your project. The next great thing about this book is that it offers an easy to read flow of text, the book is written in standard (non technical) terms, and allows for the ready not to become overwhelmed with technical terms (flipping back and forth to a dictionary). This book (if you read it in order) will introduce you to why you need security risk management programs, and how to build one and implement it on to your infrastructure. As the author points out, the old manner of using a standard checklist is not a valid way to go now a days. I always thought this to be true, since (in my opinion) every infrastructure is different and therefore requires a different approach to analysis -- not just a set list to follow. This book offers a straight forward approach to create your program, and then implement it. As you get toward the end of the book it will show you more advance topics and other approaches developed by security professionals. The only flaw I can find with this book, is it could offer more screenshots and examples. However, it does offer some, but I find having a visual representation of what to aim for helps, when trying new techniques and concepts.

In the end this book is an easy to read and well written; it also makes a great reference for any information technology professional or IT security personnel. This book will guide you through the methods to build a risk management program and show you the methods to implement it and keep it up to date with future software releases and database releases in your infrastructure! Highly recommend for all IT professionals!

I took a risk

OK, that was a lame title for my review, but I couldn't help myself. As a Vine member, I am offered books for review and, working in the technical industry, this book looked very interesting to me; however, I was concerned about how well the topic could be covered in around 350 pages. The good news is that the risk paid off and the book is an exceptional read. Now, if you have worked in the security industry for years, you're not likely to find a lot of new information here, but that does not negate the tremendous value the book brings.

I would suggest the book to two categories of reader: decision makers and high-level implementers. The book's content is aimed more at those who need to understand risk concepts and not those who need to point-and-click or type-and-execute to configure security solutions. I think the book will be a welcome addition to any IT manager's library and any security professional's library as well.

GREAT WATERCOLOR ARTISTS

PROS - I like his method of applying water to get that soft affect with a loose flowing movement. About the last one third of his book he does have ten examples. He does mention the colors used. I especially liked his Peaceful Street, Redcurrants and Poppies.
CONS - He could have had more step by step examples. Also, it would have been nice if he listed the materials (including the colors and type and size of watercolor paper) at the beginning of each step by step demonstration. It would be nice if he had a DVD video of his demonstration to view on the TV and/or computer.

A History of Cross-dressing in the Movies.

My interest in this book comes from my fifty years in the theatre and television industry in Australia. Firstly as a dancer/singer in musicals, and then for thirty years as a costumier. I occasionally had to make costumes for actors to be dressed as females. It was fascinating to see how Hollywood & European studios designed and made the costumes for some of the great actors of our times. I found the book fascinating as many of the photos I had never seen. I just wish this book had come along years ago, as it would have been a great reference book for me - and the staff that worked in my business. Robert J. Murphy

The Most Amazing Resource and Guide

I just got this book the other day, and it is really amazing. Its a big and glossy book filled with great images of Male Crossdressing in the cinema from the most familer to the most obscure. If a chap put a frock on, on celuloid, this book has it covered. Each of the images have film synopsis to go with them. It is really a great book just for the pictures, but is made even better by the movie guide that goes along with them. It has the images divided in to several differnt chapters, and at the beginigng there is a great intro by John Lithgow and the author of the book. All and all it is an absolutle pleasure to have this book in my collection.

Insightful and fun, perfect for anyone, best for that special kind of girl who likes to see the boys in heels and eyeliner.

Interesting Pictorial History

An interesting history of the many actors who have donned female attire at times in their careers.
The comic ones are quite funny however; the serious ones tell a different story. Some of the photographs
seem to be rare since some of the sequences were cut from the film (ex: The Ritz Brothers).
